Christmas in New York

Rebecca and I had a great time in NYC on Tuesday. After watching the kaleidoscope show at Grand Central Station, we walked up 5th Avenue. We made stops in Sephora, Saks, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
On our way to see the tree at Rockefeller Center, we walked through what I call the “Alley of Angels.”
We had an “awwww” moment when we came upon a father holding his laughing baby high in the air, à la Rafiki with Simba’s son in The Lion King, or Kunte Kinte’s father in Roots. Everyone around was smiling at this precious moment. It was truly heartwarming.
The tree, as always, is spectacular.
Rebecca wanted to go ice skating, but I haven’t been on ice skates in many years, and I was afraid of what a fall might do to my back. It’s just as well because LA tells me the fee is pretty steep.
Speaking of my back, oddly enough, it didn’t bother me at all, even though I was on my feet for hours. Typically, the longer I’m on my feet, the shorter the length of my stride becomes. I always end up limping, and in a great deal of pain.
However, despite the amount of walking I did on Tuesday, I felt fine. And, to my amazement, I found that I was walking fast. People usually have to slow down to accommodate me, but, on Tuesday, my 21 year old daughter had to quicken her pace to match mine.

Totally go you! I haven’t been to NYC in many many years. I used to go as often as I could when I was still living Upstate. Great pics and it looks like the weather held for you too. Glad you didn’t suffer for it either.
this is so pretty.. Only been to NYC once and year ago and not during the holiday. I been to Quebec though right before Christmas. That was really beautiful.
without having to suffer any agony. I have a lot of trouble walking too, but I don’t think I’d care if I were walking in NYC!!! This to me, is as cool as getting a Christmas I’m glad it was a great day for y’all. I love the pictures and I’m so glad you were able to enjoy yourself card from Bradford!!! Now I’ll have to get to St Patrick’s for more than the obvious reason (my Patrick is no saint though), I’m agog to see the new Lady and her altar.
I’d forgotten about the wire angels! Sheesh. I think because when Alex did the tuba thing the crowds were always immense. Lucky to see the tree even! And of course I was watching my boy.

Sounds like you had a great time. One of these days I’ll get there…hopefully during the holidays. It looks so pretty.
If you come to R.I. in winter (instead of summer/fall) you can skate in an outdoor rink like that in Providence (Bank of America Skating Center, formerly Fleet Bank Skating Center before the one bank bought the other) — I think it only costs six bucks to skate (and there are also discounted times when it is less)
